Shotgun Slug review

I started using these slugs this year and man I am extremely happy with them they will put something on a deer probably larger game too but all I have shot with these are Whitetail deer... Yes, That is racist of me. I shot a deer last week 130 yds away with these and it left a serious hole that I could stick my hand in. I have pictures if you want them there pretty graphic for some folks but if you shoot slugs I suggest using these. My shotgun "1187" is sighted in for 150 yards with these and are consistant after 170 yds it gets wacky and is all over the place. I have taken 7 deer now and they did not take a step after I shot. :2cents:

DMF I honestly have only seen it in 20gauge and 12 gauge... I just looked for you but didn't see those in .410 but here is the site http://litfld.com/wp/

oh in my county we cant use rifles just shotguns so I carry my regular shotgun in the truck along with my slug gun and those are what I use.

Are yall not allowed to use a rifle ? At those ranges I would be packing a 30-30 or 32-40.
I love to use a shotgun and buckshot never seen any use for a slug myself as I was converting my shotgun to a rifle.
I know some states only allow slugs if that was the case I would be looking for the best one available.

No sir here they catch you with a rifle in a non rifle county they will take all of your hunting stuff you have with you. I have several rifles from when I lived on kenny thomas' side of the state but cant use them but in a few counties near me. I too love a shotgun and buckshot I can use blk powder all I want but I am supposed to only use in a treestand elevated 10 feet or more when shooting them. I use the shotgun and slug to get around that.

Bf you can't use slugs on a regular shotgun barrel that uses the removable chokes... However you can use certain slugs in regular barrels that have a fixed choke .. meaning there is not a removable choke the barrel is either full choke modified or improved cylinder. My gun has a rifled barrel and is specifically for slugs only. The slugs that shoot out a normal shotgun barrel never patterned well for me so I don't use them.

If it is an old fixed choke barrel you should only shoot Foster type slugs out of an Improved Cylinder or Cylinder choke.
On the newer screw in's I wouldn't use anything tighter that IC as well. There is just to much variation in choke constriction between guns as well as companies. I have 2 Browning's both with screw in full choke one is extra full and the other light full using a choke gauge.
The new rifled slug barrels with sabot slugs are as accurate as most rifles.

Pardon my ignorance, as I'm from an un-mandated state. If a rifle is outlawed, how is a rifled larger bore gun a better answer?

Unless, this is the answer?

I guess I need to lobby my local regulatory board for safety. A large projectile that gets wacky after 170 yrds is surely a better option than one that flies more true to aim until the point of termination. I will begin work on my sign design. Anyone have some catchy phrases?

Sky, I have hunted Illinois for many years. It is a slug gun only state (for deer). I have used Lightfield slugs for probably the last 12 years. They are by far the hardest hitting, most devastating slug I have ever used. Some will not believe it but I have shot deer with them that when I walked up on the deer I could see the leaves that the deer was laying on through the hole the slug made going through. You can put your fist through some of the exit holes. I have a Lightfield slug in the console of my truck that I recovered from the breast bone of a deer that I shot while it was running away. The slug traveled the length of the body and lodged in the breast bone. The expansing was incredible and the penetration speaks for itself. I shoot them out of a Savage 212, bolt action slug gun with a fully rifled barrel. It will shoot 2" groups at 100 yards. The lightfields project a lot of power but of course they recoil like a mule on red bull and steroids. They are NOT fun to shoot off a bench :shock:

If I were guessing and a betting man I would say probably cause the slug box has this on it not a 5 mile warning lol

HOSS you are exactly right and its loud as crap too.. I bought my gun directly from the slug gun Dr. he does something to the barrel thats patented and improves accuracy.

You truly cant just say whats best you gotta take it out and pattern it. The machinist/Gunsmith I tell him make my gun shoot all buckshot in a pieplate at 50 yds he keeps the gun till hes fixed it to do so. I personally only use 000 or 00 I have one gun that shoots #1 like a champ but I shot a deer walked off came back the sucker was gone no more deer hunting with that gun and #1 that is a predator shotgun now. There is alot of people including myself that I say I like this ammo but fact of the matter is you gotta shoot what your gun likes your opinion doesnt count lol
