So I had off today from my job and my dad got home about noon, we went to the farm to clean out the youngstock sheds.
Wow. Those youngins were full of pizz and vinegar today.
The shed with the smaller ones were worse than the first, aged about 6 mos- 1 year.
There were about 5 that we could not chase out of the shed, the other 10 were more than happy to go tearing out of the shed.
Maybe they were terrified of snow, I don't know what their issue was.
They all have been used to halters since they've been little so the ones that were left we tossed the halter on and pulled them out one at a time.

Once the halter was on, it wasn't a problem to get them going, then the LEAPT out, being confident that it was "okay" now that they were being led rather than chased, knocking or pulling me down in the process (narrow doorway), the one yearling had me doing a somersault, hind end over tea kettle into the snow and barnyard "dirt".
Naughty babies!! Couldn't help but laugh it off... while my dad was yelling "it isn't funny!!!"

What are some of the scenarios or antics that your cattle or other critters have put you through?
I'll bet some of you have some great tales to tell.

I've got a heifer calf that the day she was born was dropped on the ground full of pizz and vinegar.within minutes she was bucking and kicking around like a month old calf. This last week we worked calves. Tagging and implanting. She's just about 2 months old now. We got them caught up and knocked her off her feet where she then proceeded to kick the crap out of me. I'm thinking come weaning she maybe a real pia to catch up

She just might be, those usually are the healthy, long lived ones.

Had one the other day, trying to shuffle a lot of young stock around before it gets really cold, had to catch him on the halter, in the process he decides that he's going to try to escape through the manger with bars... He got halfway through, squeezed his ribs through and got stuck at his hips. It took me, my dad and my 13 year old nephew to squeeze him and back him back through.
I hope his ribs weren't too sore from his bad judgement, but didn't notice him feeling sorry for himself amongst the rest.
