What is the best way to sharpen the blades on my bush hog?

Well. I own an 8 foot Rhino and I use an angle grinder.

Probably a whole bunch of better ways but this works for me.

A grinder is about all that will work.

Unless you want to use a file.

Do yall remove them or grind while still attached?

I only remove the center ones. The others are in the air and out in the open when it's folded for traveling.

Sometimes I'll put some 7018 rods on the worn off leading edge, then sharpen it.

I leave them attached, including the middle ones, but make sure the wings are locked up. On the 3pt I prop it up on some wooden blocks or dangle it over a retaining wall.

And please wear a pair of safety glasses or a faceshield.

If paranoid, I take them off. Too easy to get them far enough our of balance that they will shake the bearings out of the bush hog.

Last weekend I helped my dad with his...he has a 3 pt hitch - he took the blades off to sharpen. He doesn't have a front-end loader, so it worked better for him to do it that way.

The bottom of a bush hog blade is supposed to be flat. Take then off or do it on the cutter but I weld the bottom steel back on and grind from the top. I can't weld overhead so I take them off and build them back up with 7018 then trim with flame and grind.
Blades run about $25 each so if it takes much welding and grinding you are cheaper to replace.

One thing not mentioned is the angle to cut at.
Cut at 30 degrees and they will blunt real quick
Cut at 45 they will last longer
Cut at 60 and they might not cut well at all but mulch it up
Anyone measured new blades? or what they should be cut to?
