We see some pairs sold in the spring. Often old cows or man eaters, but some good ones. What price premium is there in your area for pairs with a couple week old calf vs. heavy breds of the same quality?

I have been know to buy bargain breds in the past. Results varied, but when you have a bunch of bred heifers in the mix - - 100% live calves (because you bought pairs rather than a heavies) and less feed was worth about $200 a head to me.

$475 what cost to buy the pairs off a deal today compared to the breds.

Pair worth more than that to me, sold 125# black calf Thursday brought $6/#!

Last breeders sale I went to the breds brought anywhere from $200 less to $400 more than pairs. And I'm comparing apples to apples. No rhyme to the reason at some of these special sales. Kinda like an equipment auction. I think some folks get caught up in the moment or something.

Watch Bloomington Wisconsin sale tomorrow think starts at noon. They got a bunch of each. Should be pretty good test

How did the sale go?
50 some first calf black heifer pairs looked decent with around that 165# calf side brought $2300-2500 from what I seen. Didn't watch all of it. Low/broken mouth cows along with off colors bred 3rd trimester were Cull cow price or even less I felt.
