Hello,
Im new to the site and im just getting my feet wet in the cow business. I am considering selling some 3-5 wt steers at the sale barn in lynchburg va. I have some hereford gert crosses and i am curious if theyll take a big hit there? I know there are alot of factors that go into the price so i know there is probably not a for sure anwser. I just know ive heard that angus stuff sells good there and am curious if ill take a big hit with what i have. Any advice would be welcomed. Thanks

:welcome:
Maybe you can send some pics for someone to put up for you here. I am sure how they look will make a difference.

I sold some there about a month ago. Hereford/angus cross that were marked like a "black hereford" white face, ears ect. I think my 4 weight bull went for $2.83

That's the barn I sell at and if the calves look good you shouldn't get docked too much. I am carrying a load there tomorrow.
Sure can tell which part of the state you are from. In my end of the state we haul calves. Ours are too heavy to carry. :lol2:

The further south you can sell the better. If the are showing a lot of the gert I think you still will take a hit. But Lynchberg is a good sale and some of the guys there might buy and take them further south.

Are the cattle weighed as soon as theyre unloaded there? The sale barn ive used in the past the arent weighed until right before they go through the ring.

Well i went up there today with my neighbor for the first time. I didnt carry any of mine this go around but i plan on taking some in the near future. I must say i liked how they do as far as weighing and grading the cattle right of the trailer there. The other barn ive been to dont do it that way. Thanks again for the info. By the way there was more hereford stuff there than i expected it to be.

Siler City, NC was a good sale the last time I was there.

We got there around lunch time. I think his ticket number was 130.

KT from what ive seen siler seems to be close to lynchburg price wise, but i like how the cattle are weighed right off the trailer at lynchburg vs being weighed before they go into the sell ring at siler.

Yep back up put in holding pen.. Hope someone told yall to put the slip in the fence posts or yall may have had to wait a while. There were 2 graders there when I was there. My bull didn't care for the whack they gave him with the B he tried to whack one grader. Did anyone tell you go up the catwalk and down to the window? Did you have to fill the county of origin form thing or did you not have to cause you came from N.C. ?

Sky as far as the paper work side i was parking the truck while the guy i was with handled that. So im not sure as far as to the county of origin. I did go up on the cat walk and watch them get graded and weighed and i did see that you had to go down to the window to get your ticket. How did yours sell, did they do good for ya?

Dogs and cows, ive sold at siler in the past and i have no real complaints, i just think i like the way they operate in lynchburg. I think im gone give them a try and see how it goes, but thats not to say i wont sell at siler again in the future too.
