When I ran the ad for the 3 in 1 pairs, I got a call from a neighbor that had bought 5 acres with some nice cattle sheds. He had just moved down from the city and thought that he would like some cattle to eat down his pasture.
I showed him some pairs for sale and he said that he would take two, if I would help him pick them out. I tried to determine if he wanted heifer calves or bull calves on the cows. He didn't know. So I said how about 1 of each. He said fine. I told him that I would deliver them the next day.
We got them loaded and went to his place. We stood around the trailer and looked at them awhile and then kicked them out into the lot.
He then got a very concerned look on his face and said that he only wanted two. I didn't understand. He said that I had brought him 4. I said ya, the calves go with the cows. No, he only wanted 2. Ok, I said. Me and the boy sorted the pair away from the one he said to keep, with the heifer calf and ran the other two back to the trailer. By a miracle, they jumped right on. We collected our money and took them back down to the pasture and dumped them back out. I told the boy, that cow must think we have lost our minds. We catch them, load them up, haul them a few miles, dump them and then load them again and take them back where they came from.
Vocab lesson: When you say you want two cows, that is two that have had a calf before. Prior to weaning the calf goes along with momma. Believe me, in the future I will make sure that is perfectly clear.
PS. This is the same cow I mentioned in the other post on here. They are learning and so am I. We are a full service cattle breeder.
