seed corn?

I had heard someone a while back talking about they couldn't keep any seed they had harvested for their own use for planting the following year? I am assuming that there is a contract you sign before you can buy seed corn/beans/wheat, etc these days? How did the seed companies manage that?

The seed are patented, that's how. Yes, you sign a contract before they'll sell you any.
