Since a major portion of our time is now being spent online the quality of our social lives is being affected. We no longer have the time to put in the effort necessary to weave the fabric of community living. However the cyberspace itself is now being used to build communities.

A community can be defined as a group of people sharing common interests, values, problems, normally living in the same area and coming together to support each other in times of crisis. Now community websites are being used to chat, blog, have discussions, post views on any subject that interests the members. The world can truly come together leaving behind limitations of geographical boundaries. The credit for these sites should go to the software developers and writers who provide the basics for setting up these sites.

Keeping the true spirit of the World Wide Web in mind, most of these scripting languages are open sourced so that anyone can modify them as per personal requirement. Also they are freely available to all. There are many kinds of community website script and each is geared towards a specific area of the website for instance, phpBB is the world's leading open source flat style discussion forum software for bulletin boards and forums. Similarly for chat there is BlaB1, Total Chat rooms etc. Since most of these scripts are freely available therefore setting up a community website with their help has become something almost anyone with a little bit of computer knowledge can do. A community website builder just has to identify the specific requirements of the site and use the relevant community website script. :tiphat:
