Help Support CattleToday:

If you aren't sure of doing the treatment yourself and you don't want a vet price, if they are high. I'v got an off the wall idea. Contact a horse farrier. Just a thought, but their specialty is hooves/feet, although usually not cloven hooves.

Yes, you can trim too much at once. If you want to do it yourself, want to trim as much as possible but don't know how far to go. Trim as far as you 'know' its safe to trim, and then trim additional length in increments of an eight of an inch at a time. If you do get into the quick, it won't be serious at this amount.

Most places a "horse" farrier will charge as much or more to come.... and most will not work on cattle... and they are not well schooled in holding up a cows foot with a rope or in a chute. Besides, any that are any good are usually so booked up you can't get an appt.
