If that's what we can expect from Fred Thompson, the election will be a laugher for the Dems.

For a simple example of how misleading this article by old Fred is, Scooter Libby wasn't convicted of outing Valerie Plame. He was convicted of lying to a Federal Prosecutor. So the fact that national secrets appear on the front pages of newpapers without consequence is not relevant to Scooter's conviction, and sentencing.

If there wasn't a rule here on Cattle Today about politicial discussions, I would take much more of this article apart.

I do, however, agree with Fred that Libby shouldn't be taking the fall alone. VP Cheney should be headed for the slammer right alongside him.

Van, since Dick Armitage actually did the crime that started the investigation, I fail to see how Libby was convicted.

Yes there is a double standard. I would pardon him in a heartbeat.

He was convicted for lying to a Federal prosecutor. All he had to do is tell the truth; he didn't. It's like the Justice Department people who lied about why the eight US Attorneys were fired. If the Justice Department and AG Alberto Gonzales had just said, we fired them because we wanted to replace them, they'd have been ok. But they claimed the attorney's weren't doing their jobs. That upset them, they defended their reputations and look what we've uncovered.

I find it laughable that you law and order types now complain about someone being fairly tried, convicted and sentenced.

BTW, if the President wants to pardon him, it's fine with me. In fact, I hope he does it before November 2008. :)

You give me too much credit. I didn't write the article and made no comment defending it. Fact is, I'm just feeling a bit ornery tonight and figured I'd do a little fishing. HOOK,LINE and SINKER! :lol: :lol:

You're absolutely right. From what I've read, there were quite a number of things given to the jury as "evidence" that were not relevant. Look for this one to be overturned on appeal

There's no dispute. The CIA spent a lot of money getting Valerie Plame into covert operations. The outing of her exposed a company they had used for years as cover for several agents and missions, not to mention put in danger any foreign nationals who had worked with her recently. The CIA takes that very seriously and asked for an investigation into her outing. All Libby had to do was tell the truth; he chose to lie instead.

The article is a joke. It doesn't matter what Joe Wilson says about her status, or what she says about her status. What the CIA says about her status is what's important. And they say she was covert. It doesn't matter whether Scooter Libby knew she was covert or not. He lied to a Federal Prosecutor. That's what he was charged with and convicted for.

Maybe he lied maybe he didn't. I guess we have to accept he did because he was found guilty. Maybe it will be over turned in appeals court though. But in the end there is some question about rather he lied or not.

As for Bill Clinton there is no question at all that he did lie under oath. For Clinton to get nothing and Scooter to get almost 3 years in prison is not right.

If he did lie I have no problem with him being punished but almost three years is not a fair punishment. As much as we all like to see Politicians, Movie stars and Lawyers burn this was not a fair sentencing. Especially when you look at past Dem's who lied under oath and got nothing.
