Alison, would you share that recipe, and any tips on how to make it "perfect"? Thx!

Here we go Kathie, sorry you may have to convert measurements. This recipe will make 8 scones....

250ml Cake flour
10ml Baking powder
1ml salt
25ml butter
Approx. 100ml milk

Heat oven to 220 Celsius
Sift dry ingredients, rub in butter
Add milk gradually, using a knife, mix to a soft dough
Turn out on a slightly floured board and lightly press out till about 20mm thick
Slightly cut through(about half way) dough in 8 portions
Place on baking sheet, brush with egg and bake till golden brown, about 10min

Those are the plain scones, should you wish to 'zoop' them up a little you can add -
1)60ml grated cheese, paprika, finely chopped thyme or sweet basil and add to the dry ingredients
2)75ml Dates or raisins, add to dry ingredients
3)12,5ml sugar to dry ingredients

It's a really simple recipe, the only tips I have for you are - once you add the milk work quickly as you are using baking powder and your mix is going to start raising and work lightly with the dough, don't knead just press out with finger tips and bake.

Hope they come out perfectly :D

Maybe it's just me, I have read the recipe several times ......... I don't see anything that says add corn meal, add corn or enjoy your corn meal???

Out here, scones a commonly used as a dessert bread. Scones topped with ice cream, and berries in various ways to prepare them, I like them crushed with a little sugar added over scones and ice cream ....... Never ice cream over corn bread and ice cream.

Alan you'll have to overlook ol' Cross...he's living in the Texas Panhandle, moving to Oklahoma and hardly knows whether he's coming or going. I"m sure he meant to say something else. :lol2: :lol2:

Bet cornbread would work just as well though

1 cup = 250ml, if you know that the conversions will be simple, you just estimate from there :P

You can use a cookie cutter/cup to make pretty little round scones, it's just time consuming.

....or what about topped with butter and fig or apricot jam :D . The leftovers(plain scones) can be popped into a container and then in to the fridge, the next day you have them with a tall glass of ice cold milk :D

Don't you call scones 'biscuits' that side of the world ? :?
