Had bull calves cut about a month ago. When checking on the weaned calves, I noticed a bit of a blood smear on the inside leg of one of them. While trying to figure out where it come from, I saw, his "empty sac" looked like fresh meat (sorry but best description) not huge. Only noticeable, cuz he is a light grey, so I took a look at another light grey steer, and saw where his sac is scabbed over yet.

Calf seems to be fine, no dripping blood, and no noticeable swelling, to me it just looks like the scab had been tore off very recently.

Benign neglect issue?

I'd give him an antibiotic just to be safe if the pasture is wet/muddy or if it's wet there now, but don't worry too much if it's not that bad.

We've only got that hard wet, and hard mud this time of year ;-) And no signs of thawing in sight.

Actually, when it looked like scab was ripped off, I thought perhaps probably froze to the ground, and when he got up, it ripped off.... or something to that effect.
