Why would you use either one of them?? I am sure there are good cattle in both breeds you asked about. Myself i have never saw a Saler i would let on my place but thats just me, i am sure you will here a better side to them from someone else on this board.

You need to ask yourself what you intend to do? Where are you gong to market the offspring? What kind of calf sells best in that market? What type of cow and bull do I need to produce that kind of calf? What kind of cow is environmentally adapted to my area?

Great advice.

You also need to look at specific bulls within the breeds, rather than just one breed vs. another. There are a lot variances just within the breeds.

what good can be said about salers on this board and bad and the same for beefmaster

I also wonder what has brought you to the frame of mind that these are the two breeds you are considering. They do fulfill two completely different niches. If you are considering Beefmasters, what has made you eliminate the thoughts of other American breeds like Santa Gertrudis, Brangus, Red Brangus, etc.

If you like Salers, what do you hold against Gelbvieh, Limousin, or other continental breeds.

Personally, for a replacement female, I would go with something with a little ear on it and is consistent in its phenotype. That eliminates both breeds you have inquired about.
