I purchased my first sale barn cow on May 14 2025. She was listed 8 months bred. She calved a baby girl on June 22 2025. What is a good roan shorthorn bull for making females?
Option #1) Muridale Phantom 10F is okay, but I would like to find something with less milk and more ribeye. The cow's udder is big like a dairy cow and I'm not wanting to add to it. Semex link - click here registry link - click here

That's a nice short horn cow. Why don't you AI her to an Angus bull sexed to get a blue roan hfr calf? I'm not sure what crossing her with a blue roan will get you. Finding a good beef short horn is like finding a golden ticket for those who are looking.
The vast majority of them have been screwed up by the show ring.
That cow has potential. I wouldn't even let any thing that came out of a Park on the farm with her.

@Lucky_P has some experience with Waukaru shorthorn genetics, maybe he can help. They have more solid red genetics but you have a 50:50 chance of a roan either way and with a red bull you shouldn’t get a white calf like you might breeding roan to roan.

Thank you for the replies. I ordered semen this morning, but it was not any of the 3 previously mentioned. I hope to have an update for this thread in 1 year. ... Hoping for another roan calf, but I'm not racist. Otherwise I would not have purchased a shorthorn cow!

Shorthorn : red , white and roan . Spend the wheel . You never know . Told this story before . Dad and I had registered polled shorthorns back in the 70's and 80's . Always had Red Bulls because we had a lot of roan and a few white cows . Roan cow to a red bull 3 years in a row . A solid red , a beautiful roan heifer , and a solid white the 3rd year . Loved shorthorn, hated what we got for them when we sold them . Could not get neighbors to buy a bull . They would say : nicest bull I've seen , just don't like the color or too much ! Back then I think we asked $1000 . You raise a bull to breeding age you’ve got a lot of money in them !

I received the dna results on the heifer calf. She has 2 copies of the trait for Digital Subluxation (DS). I'm going to assume Mom does too. Breed test said 88% shorthorn and 12% Angus. Profile scores -
