There are a considerable number of sources doing "factchecks", but let's face it--the fact-checkers are just as biased as the folks who send out these emails. Read the "biggest tax increase" fact check and note how it waffles and wobbles over "constant dollars" while admitting that in absolute dollars this is indeed the biggest increase in history. Certainly, the claim may not be absolutely true but it is far from false.
I didn't even read the "birth certificate" claims, because that ship has sailed and Barry is POTUS and except for diehards it no longer matters where he was born.
Fact checks are only as good as the checkers, and the checkers have their own motives.

It also seems, r.e. student loans, that most any federal employee can get $10,000/yr paid against a student loan--not just the children of Congressmen. The seems even worse than the original allegation.

I never understood it to be the congress itself but the employees of the congress. This is public record and they can forgive up to $60,000 per child. This was done "they say" to entice better qualified workers to DC. Its what Snopes calls a half truth. Snopes does a good job explaining it and cites examples. The rest is just semantics.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. There is funding for this sight from somewhere, I bet you can figure it out if you read some of their posts.

 The Annenberg Trust has been very left leaning for decades.
Case in point: FDR's Social Security promises. While it is true that the email's assertions are erroneous, you would expect a "Fact Checker", to not only correct the mistake, but fully disclose all of the truth. Here's one example.

Myth: FDR promised that SS taxes would be deductable from gross income
Fact: FDR promised that SS Benefits would never be taxable, not that the FICA taxes paid would be deductable
Fact: Up to 85% of SS Benefits may be taxable under current law.
I consider these some important details that were left out by the "fact checker". When you have a more complete picture, you realize that the email, while wrong in detail, was not as totally out in left field as the writer suggests. :bang:

Moral of the story: Don't believe everything you read. In this case, yes, the email was giving wrong information, and that makes the subsequent sender look bad. But the so called fact checker, wasn't precisely correct either, and still makes anyone who repeats it look bad.
I say, always do your own research and find multiple, independent sources for information, before repeating it to someone else.

Valerie, you may have been taken a bit with the information sent to you, but again, there was a whole lot more to the story than was presented in the "refuting" statement as well. I wouldn't feel too bad about it now, and just watch out for it the next time.

The term rumor always reminds me of Hee Haw. "You'll never hear one of us repeating gossip so you'd better be sure and listen close the first time...."

This is just like the morning dew it just as soon land on a horse turd as a rose.
It has to be true it was on the internet or tv right.
This is like a book written about the Civil War Northern Author.
War of Northern Aggression Southern Author.
My rose colored glasses have got to the point of if I didn't see it or have it happen to me I ain't real sure it is real.

Heck, I sometimes have to take a 2nd look in the mirror just to make sure I am who I think I am.
