Royal Melbourne Show Results (corrected and now with pics!)

Hi everyone! I've just got back from a week at Royal Melbourne show, at the brand new showgrounds. Out of five Murray Greys, we got:

second in the 9 - 12 months heifer class,
first in the 12 - 15 months heifer class,
first in the 15 - 18 months heifer class,
first in the 15 - 18 months bull class,
second in the best three head,
second in the sire's progeny group,
second in the pair of bulls,
third in the pair of females,
and Reserve Junior CHampion Bull.

The goats I showed came first and second in the class, first and second in the pair class, champion doe and supreme exhibit.

Angus cattle dominated the interbreed. I wasn't there to see it cos I was showing the goats, but I think it went something like this. Can anyone fill in the gaps for me?

British Junior heifer: Angus, reserve SHorthorn
Euro Junior heifer: CHarolais, reserve Salers
Supreme Junior heifer: Angus, reserve Charolais

British Senior cow: Angus, reserve Shorthorn
Euro Senior cow: CHarolais, reserve ?
Supreme Senior cow: Angus, reserve ?

Euro Junior bull: Charolais, reserve ?
Supreme Junior bull: CHarolais, Angus

Supreme Beef Breed Exhibit of Show: Angus cow.

Charolais steers won the Borthwick trophy, SHorthorn were second, Red Poll I think were third. Sorry no it was Welsh Black. A Charolais cross steer was grand champion and a Red Poll steer was middleweight champ. No lightweight was awarded as there were only two carcases in the class and they scored under 50/100.

Congrats on your successes Keren, and I was hoping someone would post the Melbourne results.

oh Killala thought you might like to know that shorty steer did well at Melb, came second on the hoof. He was about middle in the hook class of about 40 steers, but scored about 83/100 I think. Pretty impressive when the class is so strong that you can score 83 and not get a place I've seen champions that were only high seventies or low eighties.

Thanks for posting those results Keren. yes, I already heard about the steer... pretty impressive. There's a few photos of him on the Shorthorn Beef website, as well as a couple of nice bulls. It was great to see the Shorties perform consistently in the interbreed... shame it had to be behind the blacks :P :roll:
As I said, I liked that steer from the outset! From what I could see on the hook results alot of steers scored quite high, which is nice to see. There didn't seem to be much between the placings.
BTW, I like that 17month bull... the angle of the pics a bit hard to tell, but he looks lovely and long, and he's got a nice butt on him too. Well done! ;-) :D

Those are some pretty impressive animals there! :lol: Well done on your shows! I'd like to have one of them greys if I werent so far away.

Love the goat too. We sold our 6 Angoras over the summer.
