Rollover Auction for Blizzard victims

On Oct. 22nd we (Gill Red Angus) and Mobridge Livestock will hold the 3rd Annual Red Angus Feeder Calf and Replacement heifer Sale at Mobridge Livestock. Their will be 4000+ calves selling at this sale. During the sale, We will be donating a spayed yearling heifer in a roll over auction to the victims of the killing SD Blizzard.

We aren't for sure yet, but we think the $ will be going to SD Rancher's Relief Fund Established sponsored by South Dakota Cattlemen's Association, South Dakota Stockgrowers Association and South Dakota Sheep Growers Association.

If anyone is interested in donating, please let us know. We will find out who to make checks out to and what address to mail them to.

The donation is about getting cash into the hands that need it. We hope to generate a good amount for them, whatever the kind of animal is donated. My first thought was a replacement heifer, but I don't think it would bring as much as a 900 lbs animal.

Yes,from Eastern Mt. but lets make darn sure that the money donated is in a safe secure account. This could be a large amount and when it come's to money, some people have no conscious . As for what is donated for the rollover,that makes no difference. Its a super way to try to help and that is just what we are trying to do. No mater what is raised it cannot began to replace their loss's. Think about the generations of breeding that is gone forever!! The total heartache as the dead cattle are discovered . We have a report that one breeder lost all their cows. So lets all help in someway this will at least let them know their is strong support and hopefully this will also give them strength to go on.

I lost everything once in a natural disaster. It does a number on your head. The thought that every second of every minutes worth of work you ever did in life is gone. Then you get to start over. Hope and pray they didn't lose cattle they owed money on.

I never heard the term, "rollover auction", how does that work?

Bidders buy the calf and then donate it back to be re-auctioned repeatedly, with proceeds of each bid session going to those in need.

We did good. We had nearly 4 inches of cold rain, but only a little snow. We were on the edge of the blizzard, thankfully!

I've been biting my tongue since I first saw this post a couple of days ago but just had to say something. What a nerve to criticize someones generous giving. May be you should give more than your 2 cents worth ! I Applaud any and all efforts to help these folks that have suffered this storm.

You can't start a herd with a spayed heifer.....make any senses? I would gladly give them a bred heifer or fertile heifer calves to them to just helping them building up their herd. As for criticizing someone...I could say same thing about you. Looks like my two cents is still worth. :tiphat:

I don't think the object was try and "start someones herd" but to make a good way to get some $'s into the hands that need it.

We are donating the heifer to raise cash for the people who needs it. Instead of giving 1 replacement heifer to someone. This heifer is worth market price, but if we can have a benefit auction hopefully it will bring a lot more. If I were to donate a replacement heifer, someone would have to decide who gets the 1 animal, someone would have to truck it to that 1 person. But whoever buys this feeder heifer, they will throw her on a load with some other feeder heifers and head to a feedlot, but the cash will get distributed out to whoever needs it, hopefully more than 1 person will get some of it.
