What a tough break! I feel really bad for you and especially the calves. But they didn't die in vain, because look at how much they taught you.

People want to think their "lovey dovey" pets are not capable of doing things like that, but they are. I bet more livestock in the U.S. is lost to dogs in a year than coyotes, wolves, big cats and bears combined.

Hope you will try again once you figure out the "protection" factor.

The best protection in the world against a calf killing dog is a big ol' snotty momma cow. Let that stupid dog get rolled around a few times and he's cured. Anything less is just prevention after the fact or simple revenge and it's best to stop it the first time.
Shell, drive on... You can't save livestock from every danger. They are a prey animal. Learn from it and move on to the next set.

Ala, Folks around me have those dogs to protect the crops they grow in the woods. Folks in town have them for figting and guarding houses where they cook special sauces. At least that is what my DEA cousin has told me. I have seen some of those dogs lookin hungry out in the woods. They aren't seen again.

There was a brief period of time here locally when seeing gangsters walking a pit bull on a leash around town was common. Swag factor played out on that pretty fast.

feller here just got out of Macon state prison.... said there was over 50% bro's in the area he was in, there was a little white man they called bulldog that was tough as he$%#.. when it was night time, he hollered, coon dogs running tonight boys ,, while every body sleeping he run around stabbing them with a sharpend tooth brush handle

Chevy, so very sorry to read of this tragedy and hope you will be able to pick up and start over again, because I think you seem to have enjoyed the calves.

Prison's not a good place for relaxing. :lol2: I worked in a Ga. state prison for two years and that was all I could take. It's pretty much miserable for the inmates and the people that work there.

Worse for the inmates, they don;t get to go home. And visiting days are more miserable then any other.

To hear some folks that's the wrong idea. It's supposed to save them and rehabilitate them, certainly not punish them.

Weights for bodybuilding got outlawed many years ago in Ga. prisons. Many stay in top shape using calisthenics- pushups, situps, etc..There was one inmate I was supervisor of that could do a backflip and land on his feet from a standing start. He got busted for peddling marijuana and got put in the hole. I didn't see him for at least a month. I thought he'd been transferred. Longest I ever saw anybody stay in the hole. He was pale and subdued when he got out.
