I was just thinking what a miserable summer this has been and how Crowder needs to whip us up a tune about it - might make us all feel a little better. I suggest the following elements and everyone please feel free to add to this list:

1) The drought
2) High hay prices
3) High temperatures
4) Falling cattle prices
5) Increased fuel prices
AND -
6) The fact that my girlfiend is now my best friend's girlfirend! (That's not really as bad as it sounds.)

Where's David Allen Coe when you need him?

"It was drought, the day my Mom, got out of prison".........

It oughta start as any good thang oughta,

"It was a dark and cloudy night". :cowboy:

Or is it a stormy night?
In which case the drought don't work.

By popular demand  A little tune I just conceived.

Sung to the tune of Dierks Bentley's "What was I Thinkin"?

Maria was a Gal from South Porto Rico
Left me for BullBuyer wearin' a Speedo
Hope she knows the fact his Willy is broken
What was I Drinkin'?

Now I'm sad and lonely drivin' all over
beginning to wonder if she was Bi-Polar
Drivin' my truck like I'm a high roller
What was I drinkin'?

At 2.99 a gallon I wont be trollin' too long
Maybe I'll make a million singin' this Ol' Song
It rained here a little this week, been so long
What was I Drinkin'?

Just last nite I was cruisin' the Hiway
Air was still and Hot like it's all day
Hotter than a ----- on election day
What was I Drinkin'?

Things are Lookin' up
There's Aunt Alice in her Fishnets
Eased up to her, it's gonna be a sure bet
Blew out my slidin' winder with a 12 Gauge
What was I Drinkin'?

Now I'm sittin' here thinkin' bout fixin this here truck
But cattle are a droppin' I aint havin' no luck
To be truly honest it all sucks
What was I drinkin'?

That's all I can think of for now.

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times; it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness; it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity; it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness; it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair; we had everything before us, we had nothing before us; we were all going directly to Heaven, we were all going the other way."

Charles Dickens

The nite was dark
The sky was blue
Around the corner the crap wagon flew
Hit a bump, a yell was heard
Jessie an Al. was hit by a flying turd.

Not mine but here it is.

back in the day
they carved out the place
and planted their seed
egar to chase

they tended the land
with only their own
and when it got dark
they all wondered home

some barely scrapped by
while others denied
and some wonder why
as they sat there and cried

yet still others said
it comes and it goes
and only the ready
will live through the throws

Strange Breed

We are a strange breed
those who make their living off the land;
our hands are scarred and calloused
from the hard work at hand

We are willing to help a friend and
neighbor in their time of need
We are willing to give a hand up,
but do not expect a handout for me

In the times of drought and the
hay came rolling in, we said give
it to our neighbor he needs it more then me

We are a strange breed

We fight the weather and push through
the year with nothing stopping us
or holding us down

Our boots are dirty and our clothes
get torn, but working the land is not a chore

Too bad not many do it anymore

There once was a cattleman who had no brain,
Tried raising grass without any rain,
Prices hit the floor so he bought some more,
Without the grass he lost his a$$,
Yet he is still looking to buy some more.

Maybe it will rain yet...... $5000 later.

Missing You

Why does the sun still shine,
Why does the wind still blow,
When there is pain deep in my soul

With the thought of you a tear
does fall

How can I in words express how
much I miss you

Your smile, your laugh, your wisdom
you did share
The way the wind blew through your hair

The jokes, the pranks and trips we shared
How I wish you were here

Now we stand in groups together and share tales
of things we did together
A smile, a laugh, a head shaken in disbelief and tears
start to fall
How much we all miss you.

Here is a little diddy I sang to myself while on the tractor at the peak of the drought. Its sung to the tune of the Yellow Submarine by the Beatles. Goes like this.

"All we need is a little bit of rain a little bit of rain"

The lyric is repeated over and over. Unfotunately, when you are in dire need of rain and a tune like that gets in your head its hard to get out due to your obsessive desire for rain. I think it stayed in my head for three days straight but we finally got some rain. Coincidence? Oh, I also got a new radio for the tractor.

My manners at times have been tossed

Roses are red
