REMEMBER WHEN.....

Dun...you make me feel more seasoned...I remember listening for our rings. Could tell who was getting a call just by the number and sequence of the rings. Aunt Maggie would listen in when certain folks got a call...guess that it was expected cause it would sound like she was talking to a group of people.

It's only been in the last 10 years or so that we had to start dialing 7 digits on a local call, up till then you just dialed 4 digits.

I remember:
Home made ice cream ( peaches & cream, my fav.)

Catching grasshopper & digging worms to fish with.
Knocking down wasp nests and getting a nickel for them
( the larva makes good perch bait )

Scooping mud out of a seep spring so you'd have a clear basin to drink out of later in the day while hauling hay.

When cokes went from 5 cents to 6 cents.

Having to take turns standing by the TV set & hold the rabbit ears "just right" so every one else could see a better picture.

;-)

My sisters and I were raised on wood cookstove food and Im only 31. Theyve since upgraded to a propane stove. The kind on legs with the oven box on one side and 4 burners on the other for any of you oldtimers that remember those.

I can remember when it was a quarter, but I'm not telling anybody how long ago that was!!!

Can anybody remember back when gasoline was $1.98????[/u]

I remember a time when it was less than that!
I remember paying $0.19 Per Gal.

I can't remember that price, but I do remember paying less than a dollar a gallon.

I have no short term memory and I can remember taht. In 98 it was only 87 cents a gallon around here. That 1998 not 1898

I have a couple more.

I remember walking into the Krispy Creme wearing a pistol on my hip on the way to go hunting. Having doughnuts with the local cops at the same time. 4AM.

I remember NASCAR racing on the beach.

I remember coke out of the top of a horizontal nickel machine.

I remember when LSD was the current drug of choice.

I remember the original mini skirts.

I remember not having to worry about perverts preying on children.

I remember settling an argument with fists and not getting sued.

I remember when calculators first came out.

I remember being young once.

One place that we lived probably around 1980 we had to dial 5 digits if you wanted to dial the prefix that wasn;t yours but only 4 if the prefix was the same. But that was with an outlaw phone company that only served a real small geographic area. Long distance was still through the operator.

Senility is a wonderfull thing. The first "one" was supposed to be "young". My mantra is brain-fingers, brain-fingers. Sometimes I skip the brain part

Bologna, hoop cheese, and saltine crackers was considered a good lunch in the hayfield.

Homemade icecream always tasted better, especially to the one that did all the cranking.

Going to milk 78 head of holsteins before breakfast. (Cow to can, 2 at a time.)

A 67 Dodge pickup. You couldn't kill em. I know I tried. Drove Granddads into pond. Pulled it out with tractor and cranked it up!

Sleeping in a feather bed.

I missed out on it, but around here a lot of the dairys (the Amish still do) didn;t have electricity and milked by hand into the 50s.
In High school I chummed around with a guy that had to milk 20 cows by hand before school and 20 after school. He was a little skinny kid that whipped all comers when it came to arm wrestling.

I remember coke out of the top of a horizontal nickel machine.

Remember opening the coke box and the smell of the cold air from the box as you slid the bottle out of it?

They were in glass bottles and sometimes even had ice in them.
