We are getting ready to wean, and will be sending in our papers to register our first calf. We have the dam and sire info, the name of the man who AI'd her from ABS, the calf birth date, weight, and name. Anything else I need? Do I contact the ABS rep to get the ball rolling, or the AAA?
 
right the tech should have given you the cert.but since you only have 1 calf. you may have to buy the cert. i know if you buy so meny amps of semen. some meny certs come with them. scott
 
1) Contact ABS, get a certificate (you'll have to pay for it). They will transfer it to your account at AAA.

2) Go to the AAA website

http://www.angus.org/newmem.html

Scroll down to the printable Registration form.

Print it and fill it in.

Send it in with payment and wait.

3) Enjoy your calf

Also make sure you are member of the AAA so you can register the calf. And congrats on for taking the time do all of the extra work.

Joe, I probably don't know any more than you, since I have my first registered calf this year also, but you will need the weaning weight, and I think there is something about the dam's weight, and BCS at the time of weaning. Do you calve early, that you are ready to wean? I usually calve late march with nothing past June 1st. But the winters have been so fair the past few years, I am thinking of going earlier and deal with the cold instead of mud. My heifers will start Feb. 1st next year, so hopefully no record snowfalls!
