Black Angus, Red Angus, TRUE Hereford, Black Hereford and Jersey were used in the study and he found that Black Hereford has weak immune systems when they were injected with Pink Eye and BVDV. Every cow got proper treatment as every cows except black Hereford cows, got over of them very quickly. He also noticed that the black Herefords had poor growth rate when compared to other breeds.

I completely agreed with you with the whole statement.snake67":2colrgdc said:CKC1586":2colrgdc said:ALACOWMAN":2colrgdc said:its a poor frog, that won't praise his own pond....

I actually agree with your statement - unfortunately there are colour whores out there that have stolen a breed name - and put it to something it is not.
Fortunately the actual breed registration book does not recognize and will not recognize them. In fact they were called charlatans at a meeting not too long ago.
If they had even made a slight effort to come up with another name they would not have been greeted with such derision.
Breed and grow what you want - all anyone ever asked for was a bit of honour and honesty - the folks crossing their dairy with Herfs - yeah I know it is supposed to be Angus - I think it may be now - but I have no faith in their honesty - are simply another group of dishonest folks trade marking a name. Trade marking? Gimme a break!
Harsh words? Perhaps. But it is certainly my opinion and that of many others.
Sometimes it does not hurt to let people know. Off to fix some fence.
Best to all

that the associations fault or the breeders?? cause that can happen to any of em...tnwalkingred":3l7pik5g said:Bez,
I agree with you a 100% in regards to the "Black Hereford" name. I would have preferred that they came up with a different name. If it had been called the "American Black Baldy Association" there would be much less confusion and hard feelings all the way around.
I will state that "most" Black Hereford breeders here (which are not many) are breeding up F1 stock by crossing quality registered Angus with quality registered Herefords. This is why all my recent and future cattle purchases will be one of the two. I can then cross breed them using AI to whichever bull I think fits my cows the best. The Genex and Select Sires truck both carry alot of quality semen from both breeds to pick from. My registered Angus cattle will be bred to a registered Hereford bull that carries EPDs that will best fit what the cow has to offer. I don't currently own any registered Hereford cattle but I did get a quote yesterday on some quality cow/calf pairs that I'm most likely going to buy.
And the majority of people who are now breeding Black Herefords have nothing to do with the actions of the people who started the registry. Most are people just like me who have always really liked black baldy calves. I'm a former horse breeder and I really enjoy the genetic cross side of breeding. These two reasons are what drew me to the black hereford breed. The current association is a mess and in all honesty needsto be re-vamped from top to bottom. I bought a bull months ago and still haven't received my papers. Hopefully as the years go by things will improve. If not I'll be stuck with a bunch of really nice commercial black blady cows, registered Angus cows, and registered Hereford cows. I think I can live with that, and the thought of going back to a straight angus to angus and hereford to hereford breeding program doesn't sound too bad either.
Maybe they should be renamed as "American Whitedfaced Black Holstein Association" but they lost their goals as you have registered animals that are solid black, red, mottled faced and hetro black Herefords. What happened to turn them into a homo black hided animal with traditional Hereford markings?tnwalkingred":n7r6xtdx said:Bez,

Not really, the only difference between Black Herefords and these other blackized breeds is the quality in the animals.Rowdy":1o2xmyfv said:skeeter swatter":1o2xmyfv said:I agree they should have named them something else, but what is the difference between them and black simmis, black limos, black balencers and so on?
