There's an old soapstone quarry near my sister's place, good swimming hole. Alabama hasn't got the monopoly on red-neck swimming pools ;-).
Virginia has a few of them too, and I personally think they make the best swimming pools.

To get to a buddy of mines lease pasture you have to drive through another pasture and in the front of it is a "swimming hole" looks very similar to that. You can tell lots of good times have been had there!

When I was in high school, a friend of mine was swimming in a quarry with some buddies. They discovered a decomposed body trapped under a ledge in the quarry, apparently a drowning victim. They notified the authorities and the TV stations got wind of it. News crews and deputies were on hand when the body was recovered from the pit. The poor victim turned out to be someone's discarded scarecrow!! The boys were embarassed and the news people were very annoyed. :D
