I have a buddy that has cows up in that area. I guess they are out of danger for now; he did have to move them a couple times. He will bring them back to Riverton this fall.

My cousins are up Badwater Creek and Copper Mountain area. I think the fire stayed several miles away, but they were starting to move a couple days ago. 45% containment this morning.

It is a bad deal which you have to make adjustments. Between the Cow Valley fire and the Durkee fire which met up last summer there was about 455,000 acres burned. One next door neighbor lost 100% of his grazing. He went through the herd sold old cows, late calvers, and ones that raise the bottom end calves. Grazed the rest on what is normally his irrigated hay meadows. He will buy hay for the winter this year. Next year he will be able to go to his private range. I am hearing that he will be able to go the BLM next fall. He sold his calves yesterday. That is real early but it stretches out his feed. Like I said there are adjustments to make. It wont be business as usual for several years. But the good news is that once you get to the other side you will have a lot more grass than you had before.
