Recommend Rotary Cutter

I bought a 6’ Bush Hog brand rotary cutter in the summer. It’s the light duty, but to make a long story short, it wasn’t worth bringing home.
I’m not looking to mow down a forest, but aside from mowing grassy areas, I may need to mow down a few woody bushes and very small trees at times. What brand would you recommend? Should I get a heavy duty just to be on the safe side? Six foot is the size I need.

I've got a rhino. It's the heavy one, for brush etc. I've cleaned a lot of ground with it. Cut some trees, that the tractor struggled to ride down. I'd recommend one for anybody.

Dad had one of those also. It was a beast, but takes a lot of power for a 15' batwing. Thorn sprouts to 2" you don't even check up. can ride down and grind up,...idk, up to 4" or so?

I have a JD mx8 that does good. I don't know if they make a six footer. Mine is a semi mount

Is the main thing to get heavy duty regardless of brand? I guess I messed up getting a light duty. My old one was light duty, but it was 15 years old. The new one was like tin foil compared to the old one.

did you get a new 6ft brush hog.brushhogs are all we will run.ive got a 6ft heavy duty and a 14ft ridgid.they both will cut brush.

We have a TW 72 Rhino ourselves, and it's been great. We mow some really heavy brush and so far it hasn't broke. Our JD MX 10 has a broken main shaft, and our 5' model 12 Bush Hog has a broken main shaft also. The JD MX 10 has a recall on it but the serial number on the mower is nowhere to be found. And that stinks because a new gear box is $1,700. And a new main shaft is $900. I'd buy either a Brown or Rhino myself.

Priced two years ago was $6k US. It would be the last one you'd ever buy and hold it's value well. Also, your limiting factor would be your tractor, not the mower itself.

I've got a neighbor that just bought one of the beefiest ones I've ever seen. It's galvanized. Can't remember who made it. It came from a dealer by the John Deere dealership in ashburn/sycamore. Maybe ram or someone else will comment and know more. I'd be glad to find out more for you if you're interested. That thing is built like a tank. He got the 7' but I don't know what it cost him. I think it is a Modern Ag brand. Worth checking out. Brown and Rhino are dang good.

Found the six foot model for $2461. Found a seven foot model for $5800. Two different suppliers. That's a big increase. Don't sound right.

I have a Rhino TW-96 that's a beast. I bought it about 10 years ago and it has never missed a beat. Anything the tractor can drive over, it will cut....

Over the years, my Dad or I have had Service, BushHog, M&W, John Deere, and Rhino (we have the last three now) cutters.

If I ever buy a new one, it will be a Rhino. No shopping necessary, I'll just go to the Rhino dealer and buy the size I want....

Anybody ever have the notion that they could build a better bushhog than they could buy? I've always wanted a 7' pull behind. I just believe I could build one

Try using the internet most parts are available from original gear bow mfg. Most rhinos used a Cromer gear box. Also drive shafts are available from A & I. Just search and you will find it. On my rhino a short driveshaft was made from two parts of clutch halves. One part from Rhino was $600. The whole setup was $1800. I found a ag driveshaft specialist in Calif. Mailed him all of the parts. They built me a short driveshaft for $400 which was better than the original.

Gearbox for the 406 Bushhog is a shade over 2k US, and that's the cheapest I've ever found it.
