Recommend best Cell service in KY area

What is the best deal for cell phone service, especially for those of you in KY. I currently have Bluegrass cellular, but I hate the 2 year contracts. I know there are TracFones, and my brother has a deal with AT&T with no contract, just a monthly bill.

I use it very little, and only for talking; I don't text or use internet. It seems to me that a no contract deal would be the best, but there are apparently something extra with contracts, else, why would people do contracts?

I know several people who get the prepaid deals thru Walmart, I think the carrier is AT&T. Some areas here Bluegrass has better coverage other AT&T is better. My wife and daughter have AT&T and my work phone is AT&T. I did have Sprint thru work, it was so so.
