My boysenberries are gone. Drought problems mostly and me hauling water to cows all last summer plus working full time.
My maternal grandaddy raised boysenberries in an orchard. We used to pick hundreds of gallons of berries per day going back into the 60's.
I got plants of my own in the late 70's.
So I decide to order new plants this year. Couldn't find them anywhere locally. Sources didn't have them or were sold out.
Wound up ordering them from a place called Willis Orchards out of Georgia. Plants finally got here. They have thorns. These are not boysenberries. After hours and hours of attempts, the gal there who you cannot hear over the phone, tells me Mr Willis is sick and her provider tells me these are medium thorn boysenberries.
Boysenberries don't have thorns. They will bloom concurrently with native berry plants around here and you will get cross pollinating. This will result in some thorn shoots in between the aisles. Those thorny things are not boysenberries.
What really ripped me was the people there with the attitudes. Mr Willis apparently needs to educate his clerks or else empower them or something. Something there aint right.
I only ordered 20 plants. I am not out a whole $100 here. They cannot answer if they can replace these with boysenberries. They don't know.
I called another place and have 20 plants that will be here tomorrow.
What's wrong with these folks @ Willis? Anyone have experiences with them? They are going to charge me a restocking fee for their misrepresentation. As far as I am concerned, they can take the whole sum and just shove it. This is their loss.
If Mr Willis is a good kind businessman, he needs to clean house.
