I was just reading an article, if the sequester happens March 1 , what will happen to the meat market and ranchers, it will shut down the meat processing plants because their would be no federal meat inspectors so their would not be a market for cattle,poultry and hogs, and that will result in a meat shortage nation wide.
It could lead to a 10 billion dollars in production losses. This is a statement by the Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack

I was listening to the news on this just this evening and heard a phrase which ruffled my feathers.
" if the furlough happens then xxxx thousand government employees will have to make hard choices about their finances. "
Or something on that affect. I thought to myself, wow... About time government employees joined the rank and file of the rest of us. Eveyone I know has had to make hard choices about their finances including myself. Only group I didn't see takin real pay cuts or losing their jobs were the ones employed by the socialist party that we now call our government

Your dead on, Tennessee. I think we all saw the pres hawking his anti sequester views with a plethora of firefighters standing behind him as if all of our homes will burn down if the sequester happens. From what I have read, furloughed government workers (Pentagon) will be working a 4 day week instead of a 5 day week (and, most likely, alternating days). The same will most likely happen with the federal agriculture workers too. The House doesn't seem to be worried about it. A whole lot of play acting and maneuvering.

Back in the 60's I worked with a man who was a good self made business man, who grew in in the depression, he said then what we needed was another depression to get us headed right again. Can imagine with 50% of the people living off of the Gov. which is us, and all the food stamps was cut off what the streets would look like. You would have to sit with your cows 24 hrs a day to keep people from stealing them.

I believe that most Federal employees are salried so they will just get another paid day off work.

People got to eat. They passed laws requiring inspection. They passed laws against marijuana too. Did that stop anything? Just made money for those who are in the illegal business.

People are going to eat no matter what the government says. Count on it.
