I'll derned sure pay the postage. The ranchers around So. Texas have started burning pear. We're getting a little light rain here today for the first time in two months.

You know it's bad when people start looking at Intellicast and hoping to see a hurricane forming. :roll:

Forgot to mention the $75-90 a bale for coastal hay.Z
 
That hay deal just blows my mind, I've got a little extra and with fuel coming down I bought a load out of Canada of very good Alfalfa/Timothy mix for insurance and to sell to some neighbors who have a few horses here and there. A friend of mine in Colorado said that they were paying $200/ton for it right out of the field to haul down to Texas. They are ripping people off left and right. If you don't need the hay to feed yourself how is it worth 2X normal going price?? It's called gouging in my neck of the woods. If it's a dry year or a wet year if I've got extra I'll sell it but, just because nobody else has any doesn't mean that you have to rip people off.
 
Fuel and fertilizer prices have done a lot of the damage around here. From mid-summer 2005 til now the producers have had to spend more money to harvest less hay. After the first cutting last year the drought hit us and it's been hard ever since.Some of us are getting a little break right now but nobody really thinks this is over.Z
 
This rain is a blessing/curse at the same time. I had planned on drilling some of my pasture with OG/Timothy/Clover and Alfalfa but, now they're to wet to get across and the window is closing quickly. But, a new hay field we planted into 12" of dust has new grass in it 4" tall now and the Alfalfa is coming right up through it too. With fuel coming down some maybe more people will be able to afford to have hay hauled to there to TX/OK area.
