Last year we bought a number of 40# Sweetlix 722 Rabon Fly Blocks (mostly molasses) for about $16.00 each. They worked pretty well to control reproduction of flies in manure piles.

This month I asked our area feed/fertilizer dealer if they had any. They said they did and the cost would be $26.00 !! I asked them WHY the 63% price increase! They gave me an excuse of increased fuel costs and such. Well, I have my doubts that it would cost $10. more per block for fuel and hauling...

My guess is that the "middle men and the retailer" decided that this was a "demand" item and jacked up the price to make more profits. Yes, diesel is higher than last year; however, I don't think producing the blocks and hauling them to retailer would increase price $10. per block. :mad:

Any ideas and/or comments what is going on here???
 
Did you try checking with others in your area on the same item. 63% seems like a pretty good rip-off. I hope they came with a kiss behind the ear!

I've done several website searches. Even without, our closest major city is 110 miles away, lesser "cities" 60 to 90 miles away, towns in the 5000 to 10000 population 30 to 45 miles away. Haven't made any phone calls to others yet...something to do.

Sounds like a case of "Captive Audenience Syndrome" to me, more than a market driven price increase.
 
If I remember correctly, Rabon is a larvacide and IGR (various names) is a insect growth regulator taht doesn;t kill the larva it just stops it from maturing

No, I haven't. My wife does all phone work due to my hearing problem and she's been busy with other stuff. Only about 3 towns within 45-60 miles from here that have any type of F&R stores.
We have 2 in our area, but both owned by same people. Also, the local feed/fertilizer place (where we got quote) and our F&R store allegedly practice not selling the same stuff; therefore, no competition...

With our 15+ pasture areas, could get touch expensive and no guarantees of the trust "cost-benefit". Will probably just keep an eye out for flies and spray cattle as needed. Not going to fatten the pockets of the opportunistic retailers at our expense... :mad:
 
Bill, check out Ragland Mills as well as Stockade Brand. Both make a fly block. See if they will set you up as a distributor etc. Otherwise the only other alternative may be IGR Molasses tubs with Altosid. No reason in the world for the blocks to go up that amount in one year.
