Not all cattle do this equally efficiently and this is measured in feedlot tests of young bulls. A ratio of 5:1 would be considered good and 8:1 poor just as an example. It means the bull has eaten 5 pounds of feed for every 1 pound of weight he gained.

Welcome to the boards Liza14! Don't be afraid to ask questions, the only dumb question is the one you'll not ask... no question is dumb. Many, many very knowledgable folk on the board that are happy to answer them for you.
