I made arrangements for the neighbor to fab the quick attach for the tractor. His son (30 ish)had a drug problem in the past but is working really hard on getting his life together and on the right track. He's doing well enough that his employer is putting him through some high end welding classes, so we both decided the son would be best suited to do the work since he's been doing really well and could use the money. I ended up with a quick attach bucket, they fabbed up a qa bale spear using one I had that had broke off at the threads. Total cost under a grand. Up until I day I had been using clamp on pallet forks to move and load hay. The spear makes it so much easier! And visibility is much better.
I know a few were asking about cost. Parts for each set up was 250 bucks and the rest was labor. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow evening

Here's the qa set up. He cut the bucket attachments off and welded them to some plate

This pic you can see the attachments on top and bottom. The top is a regular universal qa, and the bottom portion pins on

looks good. need to add a short spear or 2 on the bottom so your bail doesn't spin .

+ 1.
Looks good and should work fine. I think you said the welder was a young man. Not getting in his business, but you may want to suggest he always make real sure his ground (work) is attached good when welding on a loader like that or he could melt a lot of tractor wiring.

When using your bucket and backdragging with that setup all the force will be on that lynch pin, and those pins aren't knock for their strength.
Good point. I don't often back drag but if it breaks ill just replace it. They aren't expensive.

I can't tell from the pic but it looks like the spear is welded in ?
They make a spear that pins in a sleeve so if you break the spear you pull it out and slide a new one in
I have seen several threaded spears break(never was able to get a warranty replacement) but I haven't seen a pin on spear break yet, several bent (no warranty on bent)
The lift arm pins your using are available in a shorter lengths so you won't have as much play
If the lynch pin may come off you can try the hd lynch pin and see if it will hold otherwise you'll have to use a different pin.

But I like it overall

I'm missing something. I'm not seeing $1000 worth. Did he build more than the spear?
Yes he's also making the bucket quick attach, and rebuilding it since I bent the pizz out of it. What he's telling me is the parts to make each Qa is 250 per piece, and labor about the same per piece. I got prices of 1000 or so to convert the loader over to qa.

Thanks 3Way, been looking for one of those for awhile. I want the model with the 2 spears on it, that way it will work as a set of forks also. I bought the top clamps from JD already, M5 put the part number on another thread. Thanks again buddy.
