Reading on the weapon's Lanza carried the new's listed this.
A loaded 12-gauge shotgun was also found on the backseat of the Honda Civic Lanza drove to the school with two magazines containing 70 rounds of Winchester 12-gauge shotgun rounds.

What kind of shotgun has a 35 round mag. Or am I missing something?

Maybe they will pass a law banning 35 round magazines for shotguns. We'll put that one right up there with all the cattle guards they fired for not working.

They already did here. You can have no more than 28in of magazine on a shotgun.
 
One of my son's friends has a semi auto shotgun with a pretty big magazine. I never asked the capacity but that sucker is close to two foot long. He showed up with it one day when we were shooting some clay birds. Nobody could hit a darn thing with it but they sure did burn up some shells.
