Question...

Help Support CattleToday:

o way to figure it exactly. The weight range is a variable and the price is a variable. 500-600 lb calves brought from $.95-$1.05 per pound. The dollars are given as the price per 100 pounds (cwt)

cross multiply the high weight to the low price and vice versa, this will give you a good idea of what they are bringing per head. Least it does down here.

thats how i always do it too.

so basically if it says 400-500
lbs 105.00-118.00

u just move the decimal point to get the price per pound? so the 500 lb would be total of $590 ?

400 lbs=4 cwt (called a 4 weight calf), therefore 4*118 = $472
500 Lbs = 5 cwt (called a 5 weight calf), so 5*105 = $525

So the range of prices received per head varied from $472 to $525 depnding on the paticular calf

Not exactly. Most buyers work on a slide. Due to this take the 500 x 1.05 and this will equal 525 or take the 400 x 1.18 and this is 472. so your price range for this slot is going to be around 472 - 525 for this size calf. Essentially, unless you got some bell ringers, you will average in this price range.

boy this is confusing for beginner lol
what would u say is a rought estimate for a good 100% black angus calf....to raise and to sell for meat?
