Question on chains...

I had to replace a chain on the baler. Very stretched chain, and noticed it had started to wear on one of the sprockets, not too bad, sprocket is still in good shape. I took off the chain, and had a new one cut with the same amount of links. When I wrapped it around the larger sprocket, I can either put it on so the bottom span is extremely tight, or one notch off and it seems fairly loose. The tightener is on on the top span of the chain...so that I can adjust accordingly.

What is the correct way?

It doesn't really matter since it'll sort itself out in the first couple revolutions but I'd make it tight across the bottom just so you can set the tightener properly.
