Question: Breed personalities

I must had things a little mixed up. The M1A1 is a tank isnt it ? It must have been the M-110 8 inch howitzer that i was on. We trained on the M-109 howitzer in boot camp. But in my unit we had 8 inch self propelled guns.

I had never even seen a howitzer until i got to boot camp. I remember the drill sargent asking what type of howitzers our assigned units had. He wanted to know it they were 8 inch, M-109 self propelled or toad howitzers. And i did not have not idea. But after finding out the difference i was sure gald our howitzers was not toad howitzers.

Isnt there a smaller howitzer than the M-109 ?

A little off topic... Why is everyone calling the 2nd Armored Division the "be nice on wheels Div"?

There is a program of some sort on these boards that automatically substitutes the words "be nice" for certain naughty words. Hence "He!! on Wheels" becomes "be nice on wheels".

Cool! :) If there are rules against using certain words, I have no problem abiding by the rules. It's about respect! :)

Not in our present Army. Back during Vietnam, we had the M-107 175mm self propelled artillery. The South Koreans and other countries are still using them.

When I joined, I disappointed my recruiter. He said my score (gt: 128) was high enough to be anything in the Army to include an officer. I leafed through the jobs book and the words, "Self Propelled" caught my eye. I figured, "Why walk when you can ride!" :D I wanted a job I could use on the outside in case something happened that would make me want to leave the military, so I settled for mechanicing on self propelled artillery. I'll tell you what! Boy! Was I disappointed to realize I'm doing some serious marching Basic Training! :eek: Ft. Hood wasn't too bad. We had to run PT twice a week. Same with Germany. Seems Armored Divisions feel mobility through riding in vehicles is going to happen. I was VERY surprised to discover Infantry Divisions didn't feel the same way! :eek: Ft. Lewis had me running PT every day! So much for "Self Propelled" and riding around in vehicles! :rolleyes: Sooo.... What did they have me do during Desert Storm? Drive or ride! :rolleyes: In the beginning, before the ground war started, I escorted equipment to the units that owned them. During the war, I commanded a M-88 recovery vehicle. So much for the mile of marching the infantry division had us train for! :rolleyes:
