I have two acres that sits along a highway that an individual is letting me use for hay or what ever but not to have animals on it.

It had small square bales left on it from last year ( that is why I get it now) I have that cleaned up but there are alot of weeds in it and I thought I might chop it very low and then seed some clover in it for small squares next year.

Would this work? I know most all my clover that I seeded in the snow came up.

Any other ideas? It is mainely fescue.

if it is convenient to you and you can make hay then I would say go for it.

in our country red and white clovers are best frost seeded between feb 15 and mar 15. I do the same with lespedeza.

crimson clover I seed in the early fall. any of them will work with fescue.

mow it now and soil test and lime and fertilize for fall and you might get a good cutting of hay this fall. would certainly give you a good head start on the spring and a jump start on the weeds.
