Question about Red Geis Prime Rib 411

Yes I have checked there. I can find all of his EPD's but not the actual BW. He has a BW EPD of -.5 so the actual BW should be fairly low but then another bull I was looking up had a BW EPD of -.3 and his actual BW was 92 pounds.

I checked the US Red ANgus association but all I had was the Canadian registry number. The US association has actaul weights when you do an animal lookup that's why I asked about the Canadian one

Thank you Dun!!! :D :D :D
I went to the Canadian site got Prime Rib's US registration number and sure enough the American site told me the weight. Thank you very much Dun for helping me out, yet again.

Is semen available on the bull? I went to the Pieper Red Angus sale yesterday and the best and top selling cow there was a Prime Rib. We also bought a Prime Rib cow. Very thick made easy fleshing cows. Is Prime Rib that way? I fell in love with those cattle. I had heard of him before, but never actually seen any of them!

How did the Pieper sale go? I was at their spring sale at it was great, just wandering how this went and what lots sold good.

It went well. They had five heifer calves (Show Prospects) that sold from $3,500 to $10,250. Bred Heifers sold up to $3,000 +- The cows were from $1,300 to $5,000. Most in the $1,800 - $2,500 range. Bulls sold strong - Had to average over $4,000. Pretty good cattle! We bought four cows $1,400 to $2,400. The lot 6 cow went for $5,000 and lot 9 for $4,100. Malm Ranch of Albin, WY, Bradburry of Byers, CO and Edwards of Arkansas bought some good ones.

Hi BA,
I can not find any Prime Rib semen for sale on the open market, although he is still alive so I have hope! When I went to Red Round-Up they were selling some there in there semen auction. They had two sets - two straws in each set. One set went for $725. the other went for $1400.
I fell in love with Prime Rib from a picture in a catalogue, unfortunately the catalogue isn't online anymore and I didn't save the pic to my computer. There is a picture of him here: http://www.rioaltokft.com/sires/prime.html

The picture there doesn't do him justice. He's a lot thicker than he appears in that picture but it gives you an idea. The EPD's aren't accurate on that page either. His actual EPDs from the Canadian Red Angus site for 2005 are:
Birth Weight-.5
Weaning Weight +25
Yearling Weight +50
Milk +15
Total Maternal +28
Calving Ease +5.5
Mat Calving Ease +5.3
REA -0.07
Marbling +.11
Backfat -0.02

We didnt get his semen but we did buy half of one of his daughters at Red Round-Up to do some embryo transplants with. She is a beautifully made cow and I am really hoping we get a few heifers from her. Congrats on your PR daughter!:)
