Question about calf

I've got a black angus calf that was doing fine now he holds his right ear down and shakes his head some. What might be causing this?

had one once that acted like it had circling disease.vet had me treat for it, but nothing changed. so he then figured he had a tick way down in it ear. put peroxide & flonase in ear & calf was better the next day

A tick was the first thing that came to mind. It is possible for them to get their ear 'broken' where it flops some, too.
