Quadrajunk troubles

I have a quadrajet carb that floods if you let it set 5 or 10 minuites or longer. After a couple hours the gas evaporates I guess and it starts fine. Needle valves? Gasket broke? Should I throw a new one on and through the old one over the hill?

I had a simular problem I bought a new edelbrock carb and conversion base plate.It runs like a champ now.

Oilli, quadrajunks, at least the old ones were bad about the floats getting fuel logged. Sort of like water logged. They get too heavy and won't float. Could be the needle jet also though. Newer quadrajets went to a brass float to prevent this. Not sure of your vintage though.

Go aftermarket. Edelbrock makes excellant carbs.

Ollie, I agree with DD and MPR Throw the Q-jet in the scrap bucket and get an Edelbrock. I've got one now that's on a 350. This is the second sb for it, was on a 454 before that. I've put one float kit in it in 15 years.

I have worked on several and the problem you are descibing sounds like the plugs on the bottom are leaking you need to take base off carb and epoxy the fuel plugs. could be float but you stated after 5 or 10 min. this makes me think the plugs are leaking. I may be able to get pics for you if you need them. Hope this helps out. EDELBROCK does make good carb if you choose to go that route.JHH

Stay away fuel with alcohol it. The rubber breaks down
on older cars,trucks, tractors.
