They got out the other day so, I went ahead and gave them a bale. There's plenty of fescue out there but, they are smelling the bean field across the fence. :bang: B&G

This is me leading them back in with sweet feed

They always want what they're not supposed to have. Having them broke to feed like that usually makes it a lot easier to get them back in. We're just a few weeks away from starting to feed hay too.

Cows do love beans.

I keep thinking I should be feeding but their poop tells me they are still fine.
What is it you look for in poop(manure) consistency ?

I don't have to lead mine anymore except the new or young ones--walk out there with a bucket or rattle a sack in the back of the truck and you better be out of the way.
Wife put some round bales out yesterday--her 1st time doing it because I'm stove up. She had seen me do it, but never paid much attention I guess. She was trying to shove those two 2" pointed pipes of the 3 pt hay fork into the bale instead of under the bales.
The one I had on the tractor is home built but looks kinda like this one:

I haven't had to put any out yet. I typically don't start feeding until December and stop in April; I only fed 3 rolls in April last year. I also have a 30 acre hay field that I plan to turn them on as soon as I see the need.

I'm not necessarily typical of everyone around me here in KY; heck, I hear some people feed a little all year, so I guess i get off a little easier.

weve been feeding 2 bales of hay a week since mid sept.the good thing is its bought hay real cheap.so we still have our winter hay.put out 3 bales sun.

My cows have 2 bales gone before breakfast. ha :(
if they eat hay that fast the bales must be 4 by 5s.our cows could eat over a 5 by 6 a day if they wanted to.but right now they are eating them in 4 days.

We have had a lot of rain this year and our pastures are still in good shape, one pasture has not been grazed on yet but will be soon. The Cattle are on a different pasture and there is still adequate feed, but it has been raining for four days and nights. This morning I put out our first round bale of fescue on high ground and the Cattle started feeding on it immediately. The weather caught me in the middle of a new Fence repair so I am waiting for it to dry up enough to complete the fence then I can move the Cattle to the better pasture.
