Well I hate to burst anybody's bubble, but Florida tried the "drug testing of assistance recipients". They found such a low percentage of positives, the cost of the testing more than outweighed the benefits revoked. It cost the taxpayers MORE MONEY to test.

We all find it easy to stereotype people who are getting govt. handouts but the reality doesn't always hold up.

But it's still a good piece and I appreciate the sentiment behind it. The answers just aren't quite as easy as she made them out to be.
Maybe they won't make a profit on it or even break even initially but just having the public know that your'e going to test them should deter users to stay away. Long term it might break even.

Why only the birth control for the woman? Why not neuter the males while you are at it?
Indeed. I think we should just put a ban on Sex altogether. That will end the entire Welfare debacle once and for all.

in vitro fertilization??? Iso we could be in the banking business. ..... the sperm bank.

I bet your a politician?

Ouch! That hurts!

Nope, just playing the devil's advocate to point out that sometimes things are not so clean and simple as they seem.

Here in Missouri, our brain trust of legislators recently wised up and made it illegal to use the benefit cards at casinos, liquor stores, strip clubs and such. They make us so proud..........

I think the investment should be made on fraud detection, and follow up to ensure people still qualify for the benefits. I think that would save more money in the long run than drug testing. I saw an article where a million dollar lotto winner was still getting food stamps. That's ridiculous, and probably just the tip of the iceberg if you were to delve into it. So why single out the dope heads, there's all kinds of fraud and abuse and let's sweep all of them off the rolls we can.

Women are at the center of the child producing biz. As a practical matter, you'd have to neuter ALL the males to prevent one "baby mama" from getting pregnant.
It isn't "fair", but it's "real". :hide:

Why not just make being on subsidies undesirable? It would be easy to control drug possession and buying if the dam government didn't hand them cash. If they had to live in public barracks that was inspected and had rules and not private housing that is for working people, it would be a big start. Kids shouldn't be buying skittles and purple drank- that isn't wise spending of my money. I've been poor more than once, I didn't get to go to the store to waste 3 dollars on crap every day. It would be easy to provide the opportunity for needy people to pick up staples. Staples are what they need to prevent starvation. Anything more than that and it is wrong. You want a hamburger- get a job. You want a private apartment- get a job. You can't keep the barrack clean- go find a cardboard box or family. You want to try again- sign up and when a unit opens up, you can try again. People need consequences- from 3 to the grave. When we protect them from the consequences, we are just enabling. Like an addict, things won't change until their is pressure for change. It has to hurt a little. We just make it easier and easier.

I believe it is going to take blood shed to change it around. At some point, the system is going to break. There is always correction when a broken system is used too long, and we broke our system. I hope it starts and ends in the regions responsible.

I'd give my last dollar to someone truly destitute, because I know I will likely make another. But I'm about fighting mad at the current situation of working for the lazy.

Besides not enabling, How do you stop poverty? Marriage.

Marriage does more to control poverty than any institution ever devised. Funny how that works. Get the government out of the baby daddy business and make people responsible for their actions. Why can a guy impregnate 10 different women and not have repercussions?

Back to marriage, it is the only way that a baby and young family will have the real resources needed. You can find exceptions to almost anything, but when you look at the situation as a whole, you double a child's support network, you double the mother's support network when you have a marriage. If a girl ends up pregnant at 15, no education and not married- the odds are stacked way against them. If we didn't hinder faith based programs to teach girls self respect, waiting for marriage and they actually graduated and got married first- we would solve most of our problems.

I think we need to bring back food stamps
When it comes time to pay you have to pull out the fake money for the world to see, no more lonestar cards being passed off as a debit/credit card.
There should be some shame in able bodied people accepting handouts

I was suppressed as a kid and didn't even know it
I didn't get candy and soda pop when we bought groceries, we bought food
I worked and bought my own school clothes
I didn't get handouts from anyone, especially the government, but they put it to me as a young man when it came time to pay my taxes without any exemptions

TB...Great post.... I LOVED that young ladies ideas! Thank you for posting!
I have enjoyed everyone's thoughts laid out in this thread, and lets me realize that there ARE other Americans with the same thoughts on this sore subject as me! I am NOT a selfish crazy man after all!!

Oh no, no, no, no....no, you're not alone. There are waaaayyyy more of us out there than you may realize. Unfortunately, the 'takers' are well on their way to outnumbering the 'makers'.

Why not make it equal?

Let's test everyone for drugs. Including the Supreme Court, all politicians, government employees. Especially our "intelligence" departments. All government contractors and lobbyists. All Corporate leaders that get special tax breaks.

Funny how the top sent our jobs overseas and they still blame us for not working.

There is only one solution! Make available jobs to end Welfare.

> Unfortunately, the 'takers' are well on their way to outnumbering the 'makers'.

Who are the takers? Those that have the beneficial tax breaks and the majority of the government subsidies or the one's that don't have jobs because the economy was run into the ground over the last 30 years?

The takers overtook the makers long before, and leading us toward this economic decay we face today.

Anyone that can't see that should be immediately tested with cause. Smile
