Has anyone had any experience with buying a futures contract or puts. I have two loads of feeder steers that will be ready for November delivery but want to give myself some assurance if prices drop. Any info or contacts would be greatly appreciated.

Another way is to contact some feedlots. That is enough cattle to interest them. Contract them now. Negotiate the terms that work for you. We did that last winter on some cattle delivered last week. I sure worked for me.

Well I went ahead and straight hedged for two loads in November and one load in January. Got 143 for November and 142 for January. All of the calves were purchased during the pandemic so i dont have a lot in them. They have been on grass and mineral all summer and have gained nicely. If prices shoot up i wont hit a grand slam but i should still have a home run. I have talked to lots of folks that live and breath feeder cattle, they think the markets will get soft this fall. Thanks everyone for the inputs and advice.
