Purchase Approval ??

I had a friend come over today and I showed him my new welder and air compressor and he asked me did my wife let me get that ? I said what ???????????? Did she let me ??????? I told him I have already been raised once by my mom and I don't need to ask permission to buy anything. He said before he can buy anything he has to get approval from his wife. I told him we do not discuss things that are necessary but if we for example bought rental property or boat or something like that we would discuss it. I told him theres many times I will buy a new truck and bring home and never tell her a thing. She can do the same she bought her a nissan 350z came home with it and I never said a word. I guess im not used to having to explain my purchases or my wife explaining hers. Maybe we are just weird

My wife and I have been married for almost 30 years now and she is my best friend. She is the one that takes care of all the money and pays the bills. We discuss all business decisions between us, and buying any kind of vehicle will be a business decision. My wife is also my bookkeeper and accountant. I made sure she knew the rules, if you rip me off do not ever let me see you again.

I have one account that is strictly for cattle and the wifes name is not on it. She fusssed last night when she seen that it had 10 times the amount in it that the regular account did. She pays all the bills so I should have much more in this account but she cant seem to approve of it. :nod:

That being said, if I spend over 50,000 or buy land no matter the price we talk about it. Otherwise its just a surprise for her when I get a new tractor or whatever. Bought a new hay roller and rake last year and had it for 5 months when she drove by the hay field one day and ask who owned it.

If mine comes home with a 20,000 ring I will hope she has found a really rich sugardaddy. She is way too tight to spend that much on herself.

Kenny thats pretty funny. My wife gets annoyed with me when I told her I wanted to buy the land I posted about from a family friend she said why are you telling me just buy it. My row crop farming account is different from my cattle account. Cattle account has her name on it. Row crop does not since i took that over. we only have one joint acct in which we use to pay bills.

For big stuff I usually mention it. Like Kenny I've bought stuff and about 6 months later she'll see and ask "when did you buy that" then I'll tell her "I told you about that, I guess you didn't listen :lol2: ". She always says the same thing in the end "you're the one that's gotta pay for it". For something like her car I try to get her what she wants and if my daughter wants something it's a done deal, that's an automatic purchase.

It's been a battle for us but after ten years I finally get to go out and be succesfull without her demanding her half. She's finally figured out that I won't even buy myself lunch if I don't think I can make a return on the investment and that just about everything she wants she gets regardless of taxation :lol: .
There was a dark time in our past when I would ask her to be carefull with spending because I had to buy _____ to keep the business going... She would go out and intentionally spend the same amount as whatever my _____ cost just to make sure that she got to spend her half of the money. :bang: We were broke every month no matter how carefull I was or how much I made. Every time I stretched to grow the business it burned me. That's from a stay at home mom with me doing half of the kid work to.
Things are better now. :nod: You can't expect a relationship as complex as a marriage not to change over time. People grow up and not everyone grows up to the point where they're ready to go out and run a farm or other small business.

If it's more then I can pay for out of my pocket I ask if there is enough money in the checkbook. That's as far as the asking permission deal goes. She can do the same if she wants.
