Pulling Bumper Pull Trailers with PU

My son did that with my fencing trailer, hooked on behind my dually. He was swinging around and couldn't quite make it without hitting the fence, so he backed up to get the clearance... he wasn't watching, but you couldn't see that little 4x8 fencing trailer behind it very easily anyway. He smucked up the bumper and the one fender... he felt just awful!

Got it claimed on collision insurance, as well as the other fender too, on another collision claim. This is on my 02 Duramax. I took it down to the local votech body shop class... they put new rear fenders, new rear bumper, tailgate, rockers, cab corners, and front fenders on it for me... cost me about $2500, and the insurance claims paid the rest. Then this past winter, I caught a deer right in the center of the grill. Didn't hurt those new front fenders at all, but I got a new bumper, bumper covers, fog lights, and grill out of it. (Believe it or not, that deer hit was a $5000 repair! 😲 ) Not much left of the original body... but the truck looks like brand new!

The body shop said I better not hit another one though... they had a real hard time finding a new bumper for it, and an even harder time getting a new grill for it, had to go to aftermarket (nothing available from GM anymore), and they went through three grills to finally get a decent one. He was about ready to give up.

I have followed behind him before and he is not a good driver. No signals, runs through lights, and has no idea what is going on behind him. He had a wreck earlier this year and got busted up pretty bad. He can barely walk. Shuffles. Had a mini stroke last year, and he says no one can tell it. His thought process is off.

I know I can pull a trailer, but to ride the unknown roads on the interstate, I choose dual wheels as that surprise on the road when things change quickly, pretty much absorbs it and it is only a slight "diddy."
I hope all goes well with him and he has a good time. I wish he could find a girlfriend to take with him. Lots of single women out there.

I have jackknifed two trailer in my life. Both were in my driveway with the same trailer, 2 different trucks.

I have a small dog trailer and it sits low behind the truck and just barely sticks out the side. Both times I whipped in to my house to grab some thing, at night, started backing out the driveway and completely forget the trailer was back there.

On my old Chevy truck it hit the bumper and bent it but didnt wrap around. Not too bad.

On my dodge it wrapped around and hit the fender because of the hitch. My dad was with me and we heard it hit. I pulled forward and we jumped out. It was on my dad's side. He said... you are good, the bumper is fine. I said... not the bumper the fender. He made an ugly face and said some thing like... oh ya... you ****ed it up. Its funny now. I was sick to my stomach at the time. It was a 4dr, 4wd, 3/4, manual, diesel and smashed the **** out of the fender. 🤣 After that bill I never pulled in the driveway again with that trailer. I would park in the street and put my flashers on.

I would hate for that to happen too. It does not take much for it to happen. Sounds like a really nice truck too. I still drive manual trucks as I enjoy them. I thought it was crazy the truck manufacturers said no more manual trucks.

I am not happy how they stop making parts for older trucks. They really want us to trade them in for new ones. Don't like their way of thinking. I am in a 96 and a 97 model. So it makes it tough looking for any part.
 
One thing that gets looked over on bumper pulls a lot os make sure the weight ratings on the balls, pins and hitches. They are not all the same. I see people walk in to tsc and just grab what fits and some of that stuff is really light duty. They will use to spacers on the 3/4 trucks to use that same 2" hitch they have had for 20 years.

I have broke 2 pins off in receiver hitches before. On the second one I went to those B&W adjustable hitches with the w different size balls. They are pricey vit their pins and every thing is rated for the trucks, probably more, and you have the ability to adjust them for the right height, depending on the trailer. If you actually have different size balls on trailers you can save money with just one hitch.

For pulling all over like that, it would be a must have, imo.
