problems with pinkeye

I am trying to find ways to deal with pinkeye. My cattle all have it I am looking for ways to treat it.
 
There are many ways to help avoid pinkeye, however, it takes a combination of things to really reduce your risk.

What breed(s) do you have? How tall is the grass in the pasture?

You may want to try vaccinating for pinkeye, clipping tall grasses, fly spray/rubs, etc. Also make sure you have out a good loose mineral.
 
We vaccinate, we fly tag, we use the Altosoid in Crystalyx tubs, and we have back rubs that they have to go through if they want to eat and guess what???? I have two cows that I have to run through the chute tomorrow to doctor for pinkeye. No tall grass, flies are miniaml and it's still happening had a calf get it and develop into a huge white spot very, very quickly, must be our year for it.
 
IBR could also be a problem. it is not labeled for pinkeye, but tomorrow, which is for mastitis, squirt some directly in the eye and cover with an eye patch has worked for me. the patch will fall off on its own.
 
There are numerous ways to treat it successfully, the most economical way is to use a dry cow intramammary injection that has cloxacillin and ampicillin for active ingredients. (one is shortacting and the other longer acting)

Squirt some directly into both eyes and repeat daily for a few days. It is dirt cheap and works a treat. The brandname that I use is Curaclox DC Intramammary.

You need to vaccinate well in advance of the expected fly season to have any worthwhile results.

Not sure where in PA you are but we are dry here in ohio.
Most folk will not mow the pastures in a dry year and as a result they have to deal with the results.

MOW YOUR BLASTED PASTURES!!!!!

it is the same procduct knersie wrote about. It is called Tomorrow. i have heard where IBR could cause eye infections.
 
Prevention is a good practice, I use a hand held sprayer, and spray my herd with the de lice soln, works great, and keeps the flies off of them. Also mowing pastures is a real good thing to do also, as someone already said.
