I am looking to purchase a probe to sample hay. I was told to look at Colorado probes, but they are pretty expensive. Any other suggestions?

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe you can borrow one from the county extension office.

The extesion agent came out a couple of days ago and tested some hay for me with a hay tester that he bought some where.

It looked like it was made from a schedule 40 4" y fitting and a peace of 1" stainless steel tubing about 2' long with the one end of it sharpened.

It took him longer to unclog the thing than it did getting the samples.

After seeing one i think with very little effort i could come up with a better mouse trap to take hay samples with. I think he said you could buy thoes at the farmers co-op.
