Couldn't find a good forum for this to go, but my question is this...

1)How wide is the actual base of the SO4 model? How wide of a cement slab should I pour?

On the website I know it says its 94.5" long and 53" wide(But that includes the head catch handle length.. So how wide is the actual floor from side to side.

2) The 48" B&B under the chute scales that I want, is it an exact fit for the SO4 model, are the scale wider than the base of the SO4, or does the hang over the side of the scales? Thanks in advance.

Dunno if this will help, but the Preifert PDF literature page for SO4 says:
1210 lbs weight
33" INSIDE width.
70.5" INSIDE height
87" INSIDE length.

Takes awhile to load but here it is:
http://www.priefert.com/media/literatur ... atalog.pdf

Another website gives these dimensions some of which you already have:
Overall Length: 94.5"
Outside Width: 53"
Overall Height: 80"
Weight: 1210 lbs (All weights approximate)

• Inside Width at Belly Pipe: 24" Widest Point: 30"
• Inside Height: 62 1/2" (floor to inside tailgate frame)

Call Priefert at 800-527-8616 for more info?

I have the 48" bars under mine. I can measure my pad tomorrow if you need me too. The bars are slightly wider that the chute. I used some u bolts to attach mine. I can get you some pics if needed.

Make your slab an extra 18" wide or so on the working side. It makes it much easier when its wet & muddy to have a nice place to stand. I made my pad about 7' wide and about a foot longer than the chute. The cows step out onto the front of the slab instead of in to a mud hole. The front of the slab tapers on a slope to ground level. Everything also cleans up a lot easier with a bigger slab.

One thing about putting bars under the chute is it raises it up quite a bit, my help could just barely reach the handle to open and close the rear gate. I made a raised up area out of 4 inch blocks to help with that. I also put a big rubber mat out front where they exit.

Good deal thanks.
Tom,
Do you have any trouble with the chute rocking on the scales acting like it's gonna tip sideways if you get a wild cow in it?
I dug my pad spot out 4-6 inches deep, 5 foot wide, and 100" long. Didn;t know if the scales were too wide under them, fit exactly, or not wide enough.
Tom, If you have time to snap a couple pictures of the pad and chute, how you have your scales attached to chute, and a couple pics down low of everything that would be wonderful. If not, that's fine too.

I will try to get some pics tomorrow afternoon. If you can pm me your email and it will be easier. I cut some steel to fit inside the channels of the chute and clamped the bars to it with u bolts. I have not noticed it trying to rock, only if one its it hard it tried to scoot.

Ok. Will the chute not fit right on the scales without having to fab something else? Our chute is either chained or tied to keep from scooting, but the rocking is what I was afraid of. Thanks again.

Not had any trouble with it rocking. I have chains on mine holding it to the railroad ties behind it, keeps them from pushing the chute forward.

Do you move your chute around from place to place or is it stationary? Would it hurt them to move the chute from place to place? Bought the wheel kit with my chute.

Doesn;t hurt them at all. My old chute was moved a ahlf dozen times a year and no harm. The chute that the FFA has is driven all over the county and used by a lot of folks. It's probably 15 years old or more and still works as well as it did new. It's had some misc welding done on it but I think it would have if it just sat in the FFA barn.

Yeah,
Just didn't know if I should attach the scales to the bottom of it, or just let the chute sit on them without attaching. We will be moving the chute from place to place and didn't know if it would hurt the scales. Thanks.

I would set it up so that the scales are easy to detach from it.

Any ideas or thoughts on how to accomplish that feat?

On my old scale I just fastened a metal plate just wider then the rear and front of the chute to the weighbars and drilled holes in the chute and bolted it to the plate. I hated having it under the chute so got a cage type of deal that fits in the alleyway just before the palp cage and use the scale under that.

Oh I see. Hmmm.. I can probably come up with something to make it work.
Whatever you do don;t weld anything attached to the bars, seems to blew them up. Anyway it did the neighbors.

Yeah. The B&B ones have the plate looking ends with the holes drilled so can prob use U bolts and then just unscrew when we get ready to lift and move.

You can always make a platform to set the chute on I guess and move each one separate.

Tom if you don't mount the scale bars to the chute will the bars flip if the chute scoots on top of them?
