I was wondering what the cost of building material is down south. A year ago a bundle of r-20 insulation was 29.00 now its 45.00 . one lumber yard close to the U.S. border (and who sells a lot of material to the U.S.) was 53.00 / bundle-- and their telling me inflation is at 2.1%

prices here are
2x4--33.5/foot
2x6--.49/foot
2x8--.79/foot
2x10--.99/foot
bundle shingles --16.99
O.S.B.-- 8.99/sheet ( chip board)

sold 2 red steers--1090 (total)--126.5/cwt===1378.85
1 black hiefer 555 pounds 119.50/cwt====663.23
1 black white faced 528 pounds--113.00 cwt====565.00l

1.00 canadian today equalls .89

thanks carl

Carlos,

On Sept 5th these were some of the prices we got (I tried to match what you had as best I could)

Sold 1 red steer - 530 pounds - 118 = 625.40
1 blk heifer - 610 pounds - 105 = 640.50

I thought they did pretty good.

As something else to compare - at the sale barn we get charged the following

Commission 3%
Beef Check-off $1 per head
Yardage $4 per head
Insurance It was $3.11 on 5 head, I don't
know if % or flat rate per head

Down here $1 ain't what it used to be (sorry I couldn't resist)

Cuz

A while back I figured that I could by 100 gals more diesel with the sale of a heiffer than I can today. I'm not complaining about the cattle prices though. It just seems you take one step forward and one step back.

Prices for lumber and concrete have skyrocketed since Katrina! I remember buying OSB board for around 7.50 a sheet....it's now over $14 at the Home Depot. When I built my house in 2003, concrete was $49/yd....now its over $65/yd.
