B asked me what 550 lb steers were bringing. So when I went to the sale yesterday I grabbed a couple cards and wrote down weights and prices of everything in the 500 lb range. Steers weighing right at 500 were $2.99-$3.04. Ones weighing 595 brought $2.85. So $1,500 to just under $1,700. Heifers were back about 20 cents. Saw one pen load of steers from a reputation rancher, peewees weighing 367 sold for $3.77. Looks like prices are holding up pretty good. Off a little but the fall run is just getting started here.
 
Things here have been off about $.20 to .40 for several weeks... from the highs of 2 months ago... But still in the $2.75 - $3.00 range. A few were in the $3.20 range... Heifers are bringing in the $2.00-2.40 range for the most part.
Cull cows are also off a little; most in the $.80 to 1.20 range... down from many in the $1.20-1.50 range a month ago...
Alot of calves have been sold off here early due to the drought conditions, so not sure there will be as big a fall rush as some years.
Sale today, might try to go watch some.
 
I stayed long enough to see what bred cows would sell for. They pounded all of them but most of the ones I would be interested in went back to the country. About $1.36 was one bid above the kill buyers. I saw but didn't write down some heavy cows which were short bred bring over $1.40 to kill.

here, 500-600 steers brought 305 - 317. i figured with the lowered fed rate things would pick up a little.
 
Feeder prices were up $.10-.30 lb so back to near the 2.80-3.25 of a few weeks ago... for 5 wts. Over all prices seemed to be back up a bit... Last week must have been a fluke... Saw a few heifers bring in the 2.40-2.65 range... didn't stay too late for heifers.
 
Big drop off in price over 500# here. I held some heifer calves back because I had enough grass. Boy that was a mistake. I am just going to keep them now. I need to replace some old ones I took to the sale barn back in July anyway.

Most yearlings here off 20 cents and calves are off 50 to 80 cents depending on weight class from mid July when we contracted ours. Best cows to 1.80 and high yielding bulls will still get to $2.
